Letter from County of Santa Clara dated April 22, 2009

Letter is regarding: People vs. "the attacker", DA Case #, Charges: PC 273.5(a)

The office of the District Attorney has issued a criminal complaint against the above-name person.  The charges are based on the events of 4/18/2009.

We realize it is difficult to be involved in a case of this sort.  However, the criminal courts can help stop the violence.  It is against the law for anyone to use force or violence on you or your family members.  You do not have the power to "drop the charges."  The power to dismiss lies with the prosecuting Deputy District Attorney and the Judge.  We are here to help you get through the court process.  We know you did not chose to be involved in the criminal justice system.  We understand sometimes the process is confusing.

If you need  Victim Witness assistance or have any questions regarding counseling, the court process, or would like information on obtaining restraining order, please contact...Advocate, 408 phone number.

If the subject has been arrested and you want information about his/her custody status, read the pamphlet enclosed.  You have the right to be informed where the subject is housed and when he/she is released. (end of letter)
Signed, Supervising Deputy District Attorney

The crazy thing about the letter...I called the phone number and left a message for the girl advocate. This was one afternoon..I wanted information regarding counseling.. really felt we needed it.  She did not call back.  Next afternoon I called and left another message...waited and nothing...she never called back.  I called a third, and now by the forth message I decided to transfer to another young woman. The woman I was transferred to was very nice!  She gave me some information and referred me to a website. I received a call from another gentlemen following up to see if someone had called me. This guy was so helpful! I actually want to put is name down...well is name started with a "P!" During this time the District Attorney called and I told her I was having trouble reaching the Advocate I was referred to.  She asked for the information of the advocate so I gave it to her.  I find out that the girl I was referred to was out of the office I think on vacation.  Apparently, she forgot to change her voice mail message!  A few days had already passed..and believe me..sometimes you need to speak to someone and RIGHT AWAY!  What a mess!...so by this time I'm already frustrated with the system. Can I really believe in the system? Not feeling confident about the entire process.........
